This college is established as per the Government order 162 in the academic year 2013-2014, on 13.09.2013. at first , this college is started in the campus of government boys higher secondary school, Uthiramerur.  on  30.11.2015, a permanent building was given at Thirupulivanam village, Uthiramerur and inaugurated by Dr.J.Jayalaitha,  Chief Minister of Tamilnadu through video conferencing. Then the college has been shifted to the permanent building.

First this college was known as “Government arts and science college”. based on the government order number 266, dated 19.09.2017, renamed as “Puratchi Thalaivar Doctor.MGR Government Arts and Science College”.

From the academic year 2013-14, it is run with the 5  under graduate courses namely B.A Tamil, B.A English, B.Sc Mathematics, B.Sc Computer Science and B.Com (general). As per the government order number.120, dated 22.06.2018, B.Sc Physics and B.Sc Chemistry coursers were inaugurated. As per the government order number.20, Higher Education Department  dated 19.08.2019, B.A Economics course was inaugurated.

In the academic year 2020-21, a separate building was built with lab facility for the science departments (Physics and Chemistry) and inaugurated by Mr.M.K.Stalin, Chief Minister of Tamilnadu through video conferencing.

This college is situated on the road of Uthiramerur – Kanchipuram to enhance the higher education facility among the students residing in the Uthiramerur Taulk , Kanchipuram District and the numerous villages around
